More About Chinese Medicine
Chinese medicine is a holistic approach to health. It is effective in treating a wide range of conditions, and with regular treatments can bring the whole person towards a more balanced state in which optimal health can occur.
Chinese medicine originated thousands of years ago and has been continually practiced throughout China and the world. Treatment is selected based on an individual’s specific complaints/health concerns and their overall constitution and unique health picture. Acupuncture involves the insertion of hair-thin single use disposable needles at specific points throughout the body. These “acupoints” are stimulated in various ways in order to support the body’s natural healing processes.
Besides the use of acupuncture needles, the following techniques may also be utilized:
moxibustion, which involves the burning of a medicinal herb over the acupoint,
cupping, in which a partial vacuum is created in cups placed on the skin either by means of heat or suction,
guasha, in which the skin of an area is rubbed to release tension,
tuina, or Chinese medical massage
